Now that the record is done, I realize describing it hasn't gotten any easier. But there are some things that I feel are worth mentioning, like the wonderful musicians who took part in bringing this recording to life.
Tom Guarna (Guitar)
Paul Socolow (Bass)
Mitch Stein (Guitar)
Jim Kost (Rhodes)
Chris Buono (Guitar)
Steve Kimock (Guitar)
Aaron Whitby (Additional Keyboards, programming, and production)
Most of the compositions were written specifically for this record, and some were written for something else entirely. But I feel that all of these pieces represent different views of the same object or story. There is a strong Electronica element to this music, but I think that's just one part it's DNA.
Whatever people feel about it, I know that it has its own identity. This is a snap shot of where my head and heart were at the time, and I hope I've given it enough love and nourishment for it to survive on it's own. Having been influenced by Massive Attack, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Goldie, and DJ Shadow, the electronic elements of this music were inevitable. But there are so many other factors that went into the writing as well as the over all sound of the record.
Since I took over the majority of the production duties on this project, I've learned so much more about keyboard playing, sound designing, and about the recording process from the production end of things. This also forced me to learn more about playing my own instrument under these circumstances. The classic saying of "if I only knew then what I know now" always comes to mind when thinking or talking about making this record. My drumming and my writing has also changed since finishing this album. But this is a first step. And as scary as it was and still is, I'm also very excited about taking the band out and playing the material in front of a live audience.
A lot has happened during the making of this album. I've lost some people who were very close to me, and the state of our world seemed to be in a steady decline. But I believe we need new music now more than ever. I hope you enjoy (Twelve Months of October). Because as difficult as this first experience was for me, it was still a labor of love. Thank you all for your continued encouragement and support. It really means a lot to me.
Stay tuned!
Take care,

Rodney Holmes has a vision of music without borders and the chops to pull it off. For the first time an album is able to deliver the modern aesthetic of techno / electronica/ trance (think Massive Attack) style music, delivered with the skills of an masterfull musician. People familiar with Rodney's work with legendary jazz musicans such as The Brecker Brothers and Wayne Shorter will be in for a surpise. But give it a chance to see him breath life into modern machinery, because Rodney can keep multiple syncopated rythyms going while adding energenic human comentary. There's lots of good drumming here but the real suprise are the compositions which have the feel of a soundtrack...the soundtrack of your life maybe.

This CD is definitely one of my personal faves. Since I got it, there hasn't been that many days that has passed by without me listening to it. You get a little bit of jazz, prog and even some tracks that sound like something out of a Prodigy album (whom I love as well). And thanks to this CD, I now know how terrible I am at drums. Argh!! Now... how about an instructional video for your many fans? Rodney Holmes and Jojo Mayer are 2 of my favourite drummers of this genre. Thank you for the music. MORE PLEASE!!

Great drummer/album

Rodney Holmes is an amazing drummer. I've heard him play in a few other bands as well, and his playing is nothing less than breath-taking. My favorite albums that showcase his great talents are this album, Steve Kimock Band: Eudemonic, and The Hermanators: Twisted. Watching him play live is a whole other aspect of his greatness. He is so fluid, relaxed, and incredibally technical. Usually when he plays live, the band will go to improvising on the songs, which is great. Here you see his great ability in musicality, and playing what feels right for the song and the moment. This guy has great understanding of time, and can groove like a mad man. Definately one of my favorite drummers of all time. So get this album, and any other album that he plays on, he won't disappoint.
